One of Tampa Bay’s best-loved annual festivals—a celebration of art, music, food, and community—is coming up in just a couple of weeks, and you’ll want to be a part of it with primo luxury accommodations nearby at Sirata Beach Resort.
The 45th Annual Mainsail Art Festival takes place Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 20th in St. Petersburg’s Vinoy Park, an easy trip east from our lavish St. Pete Beach resort. Join us for this marvelous annual tradition!
Begun as the St. Petersburg Sidewalk Art & Colonial Crafts Festival as part of 1976’s Bicentennial celebrations, Mainsail has been going strong ever since. At the heart of the celebration is, of course, art: ceramics to sculpture, watercolor to metalwork, oil painting to photography—the creations of better than 250 juried exhibitors who’ll be competing for $60,000 in prize money.
This year’s illustrious Mainsail Art Festival show judge is Holly Koons, the executive director of the Arlington Arts Center in Virginia and the former director of collections and exhibitions at Savannah, Georgia’s Telfair Museums.
Younger artists come well represented at Mainsail, too, courtesy of the juried Young at Art Student Exhibition: a showcase of wonderful artwork by K-12 students from all across Pinellas County.
Even as you feast on all of the fine art on hand, you’ll also get to enjoy a rich soundtrack at Mainsail. For a complete entertainment schedule, click here.
Merrily prowling the Vinoy Park festival grounds, meanwhile, is a troupe of “Strolling Entertainers”: Barnaby the Clown, Clark Lewis the Juggler, George Aldrich the Minstrel, and Deanne the Mime.
The culinary arts are part of the artistic spectrum Mainsail heartily tackles, so you’ll be eating very well while attending the festival. The 2018 food vendors haven’t been revealed quite yet, but keep tabs on the Mainsail Art Festival website for the forthcoming lineup.
Come soak up the sun, the sand—and the artwork!—of Florida’s Gulf Coast with a Sirata Beach Resort vacation timed with St. Petersburg’s Mainsail Art Festival.
