St. Petersburg's Shine Mural Festival

We’re talking about SHINE, an awesome tradition introduced in 2015 by the non-profit St. Petersburg Arts Alliance that sees local artists as well as those invited from across the country and the world to enhance the city’s public art with murals. As the official SHINE website puts it, the festival “illuminates the power of art in public spaces by revitalizing areas, inspiring dialogue, and uniting our community–while cultivating new standards of artistic excellence and reflecting St. Petersburg’s creative and vibrant spirit.”

SHINE takes place in October, and you can find the artist lineup and locations for this year’s SHINE Mural Festival on their website and Facebook. 

Mural Masterpieces By Shine Artists

The range of subject matter, style, color, and setting encompassed in the SHINE murals is extraordinary, and while it’s certainly very special to watch the muralists at work during the festival itself, you can also appreciate the creations anytime. You can tour the artwork painted in previous festivals—from Italian artist Hitnes’ beautiful Florida birds at the U-Haul location at 975 2nd Ave S to Sarah Sheppard’s dreamlike Life Reimagined painting at 719 Central Avenue—using these virtual galleries as your guide.
